Participation in doing good deeds and organizing charities has a fruitful and long history in Iran. Examples of this type of work can be seen in rendering help to the needy, disabled and other vulnerable people as well as founding of schools, clinics and hospitals. A few of this type of organizations have become effective, citizen-funded institutions in the Iranian public domain

In 2013, a few of Iranian environmental activists decided to found a non-governmental organization with the goal of providing financial support to persons and entities that pursue environmental advocacy. Toward this end, they created the Iran Environmental Defense Fund

 

The Goals of the Fund

  •        Material and moral support of rangers and other persons who are working in the area of protection of nature;e.g. to subsidize their income or pay for their treatment when they get injured in line of duty
  •  
  • Organizing gatherings, educational workshops, contributions to making movies, and publishing books, journals and other forms of dissemination of information
  •  
  •          Assisting with preservation of wild life in emergency situations
  •  
  •          Granting awards, moral and financial rewards to individuals and entities that work in the area of defense of natural resources and environment and engage in voluntary and educational endeavors
  •  
  •          Support of any and all plans and programs that are consistent with the goals of the Fund

 

Structure

General policies of the Fund are set by a Board of Trustees, which is elected in a meeting of the general membership. The meeting is held every three years.  The Fund has a Board of Directors that manages the day-to-day activities of the Fund. Members of the Board of Trustees do not receive any compensation for their services.  The Funds’ revenues and expenses are documented and transparently shared with the public. The Funds’ financial books are open to the public
